STEP 14: SEO WRITERS STYLE GUIDE FOR TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS

Your titles and descriptions will be on target for viewers, search engines and directories if you write with these goals in mind:

Be informative: Users are reading your description to decide whether to visit a given site. Explain the important features of the site and specifically describe what it offers that others in the same category do not.

Be objective: Describe the site without offering opinions about it, using words that do not display a bias.

Be concise: Due to limited space, descriptions must be brief. Use your writing skills to fit as much information as possible into the space allotted, while still writing in a sensible and grammatical way. Descriptions must be at least 10 words long.

Be search conscious: Many Web users perform keyword searches.

Keywords

Many SEM professionals believe search engines no longer read the Keyword Tags but I suggest you try them out anyway. (Just in case) They have worked extremely well in SurfBC’s Otter Webzine and many of our DNN pages receive keyword benefits as well. Try them out on your site and monitor the results.
