Keyword or Keyword Phases: use the view source option of explorer to look at their keyword list. Make note of the first 2-3 keywords or phrases and jot them down. Repeat this process for each landing, product and promotional page for all
Last step of this stage is to use the Alexa search tool to identify your online competitors and add their keywords to your list. For example a plumbing shop located in Vancouver could search for Vancouver+hot water heater. Note the top non paid listings and then mine their top two keywords or phrases as well. You must repeat this for every type of product or service you wish to promote online. Vancouver+plumbing repairs etc. Watch for text or google type ads placed by your competitors. Note where and how often you see them. (Tip: use this information to help you gather budget information)
A marketing person determined to reach top Internet rankings will then repeat the last step for each of the four major search engines and any specialty engines that relate to the offering.
