DotNetNuke Portal links module lets website designers easily add link functionality to their web page design.
This module renders a list of hyperlinks. Links includes an edit page, which allows authorized users to edit the Links data stored in the SQL database.
Link Instructions
Links renders a list of hyperlinks. Links includes an edit page, which allows authorized users to edit the Links data stored in the SQL database. Links format URL's in a list with a description and alt text entries. Alternate text displays when the user hovers the mouse over an object or link.
This module renders a list of links to any tab, image or file on any website. Set the links to display either vertically, horizontally, or as a drop down box on the page. A description of the link can be set to appear either on mouse over, or when you activate the link.
Add a Link Module
- Use your browser to navigate to the page you want to place the module in.
- Select Image from the drop down module list in the administrators menu bar.
- Click on the Add button. You will see a blank Link module.
- Mouse over the pencil icon.
- Click on the Add Link button.
- Enter the required information.
- Title - Enter the title for the link as it will appear.
- Select a link option:
- External Link: (links to web page, image or file located on another web site). Enter the address , for example http://portals.my-asp.net/
- Internal Link: (links to a Tab on your site). Click on the button and select the Tab name from the drop down options.
- Internal File: (links to an image or file located on your site). Select the image or file from the drop down options, or click Upload New File link.
7. Click Update.

Title |
Enter a title to be displayed as a link for the user to click on. |

Choose the Url, Tab or File radio button for the link of your choice. Click the Select link to choose which tab or URL you want. |

Description |
Enter a description this will show up when the user clicks the (dots).. after the title displays (see below). |

View Order |
Choose the view order you wish to display each entry. 1, 2, 3 etc. |

Display in New Window? |
Click in the indicator box to show a check mark if you wish to open the link in a new window on your site. |

Clicks show log? |
Click in the indicator box to show a check mark if you wish to view the number of clicks and log for a link. |
You have now added a link to your portal page.
View Options
- View controls determine how the module is displayed. To set your view controls:
- Mouse over the pencil icon located in the left column of the Links title bar.
- Click on view options to open the Links View Options Form.
- Control Type: Select ‘link’ to display links in a list, or ‘dropdown’ to view links in a dropdown selection box.
- List Display Format: The list can be displayed either vertically down the page (default setting) or horizontally across the page.
- Display Info Link: The link description can be displayed either on mouseover (default setting) or as a link which displays as … after the link title. Select:
- Yes to display the description as a … link,
- No, you will not see the description of the link.
4. Click on Update to save the record.
You have now set your view controls for the link module.
For the example below I chose one of each radio buttons, display links in a list and Yes to display the description.
