Skins
DotnetNuke Portals use skins (web templates) to enable administrators and hosts to easily change the look and feel of web pages in their website design.
Portals may use their own skins or host skins. Skins can be Host skins/containers or Portal skins/containers.
Host skins are stored in /Portals/_default/Skins.
Portal skins are stored in portal-specific folders (using each portal's unique ID): /Portals/0/Skins, /Portals/1/Skins .../Portals/100/Skins etc.
Skins used by DNN must be ASP.Net controls (i.e. ascx files). However, you can design skins in HTML. When you upload them using the File Manager, DNN converts them on-the-fly into ASCX controls (i.e. all usable skins are always ASCX controls).
Skin Management
Skin management module allows you to view thumbnails of installed skins or containers, preview or apply them to your site, parse them if you have made manual changes to the source HTML files, or delete them. Some packages do not contain images of the skin for preview and you will see a blank box.
- Click on the Administrator Skins Tab. You will see the Skins management module.
- From the Skins or Containers dropdown box chose the skin you want to preview, apply, parse or delete. You can restore the original default skin by choosing Host or Site and clicking on the Restore Default Skin link. Host shows all the host skins and containers, and Site shows all the portal skins and containers.
- Click on the Delete Skin Package link at the bottom of the page to delete the entire skin/container package.
- Click on the Delete button under the preview skin/container to delete the individual skin/container.
