Portals
The DotNetNuke Portal Tab allows the Host account to add, edit, delete and manage portals and child portals. The difference between creating a Portal and Child portal is the naming convention. To set up a full domain name www.yourcompany.com you will need to contact your service provider.
- Mouse over the Host tab on the main menu bar of your portal site.
- Highlight and click on Portals. You will now see the Portals list screen.
The child portal takes its parent name from the first alias entered in the Admin Site Settings Portal Alias box. Click the pencil icon located next to your portal and check your Admin Site Settings before adding a child portal.
Add a New Portal
- Mouse over the pencil icon located in the left column of the Portals title bar.
- Click on Add New Portal.
You will now see the Signup Page. Read the included instructions on which portal type to choose. Note: These instructions are located in /Portals/admin/Portal/signup.ascx.vb lblInstructions.Text. Make a backup of this file before changing and saving.
- Click on the radio button to choose the portal type.
- Enter the URL of your child portal.
- Choose the template you want to display, portal is fine. Template files are uploaded using the Host File Manager.
- Enter the Administrator of the child portal’s First Name.
- Enter the Administrator of the child portal’s Last Name.
- Enter the Administrator‘s username they will use to login for the first time.
- Enter the Administrator’s password they will use to login for the first time.
- Enter the password again to confirm.
- Enter the Administrator’s email address.
- Click the Create Portal link. Note: the email address is not verified.
You will now see a new child portal page. As the Host Account your Host Tab displays on all the child portals you create. Click the Logoff link and then Login using the administrators’ username and password. All skins and modules installed in the Host are available in the new portals you create.
You have now added a new child portal to your site.
Edit, Delete or Manage Portal Records
To edit, delete or manage your Portal information:
- Click on the pencil icon located next to the portal title to open the Edit Portal form.
You will now see the site settings for the portal you chose.
- Click into a field to modify the site settings data.
- Click on Update to save the record.
- Click on Delete to erase the portal.
You have now completed the Portals Tab.
