DotNetNuke Tips

The first thing you want to do is secure your Host and Admin accounts. After adding your content always; login as unauthenticated to check all your pages. Make sure there are no pencil icons to let users enter data. Also, login as a registered user to check data entered to make sure that your registered users (or specified groups) have access.

Almost everybody goes to the forums at asp.net. You can ask questions in 4 different DotNetNuke categories. Click Here for the Getting Started Category. If you are new to forums and want to try out the features and still get help click on dotnetnukehelp.

All of your DotNetNuke images are located in your /images folder. If you do not want to use a default DotNetNuke image you can replace it with your own using the same name as the image you want to replace it with.

If you have a page that is not accessible to 'unauthenticated users' and you want to display your own 'unauthorized' message then add a Text/HTML module to the top of the page and add your own message. Set the 'Module Settings' , 'Authorized Roles' to 'unauthenticated users'.

To display a container with no title put a space in the 'title' textbox in your module settings and make sure the display title checkbox is checked.

Upgrading to DotNetNuke version 3?

Delete foreign modules unless directed otherwise by your DotNetNuke module developer.

Make sure all your module container's are 'specified' in every module on your website before upgrading (even if the display container checkbox is off). If you have modules you can no longer edit and you want to delete them then view source on the page that the module is on. Get the offending module ID number. Go to your database and look in the HTMLtext table and delete the corresponding module ID number and all will be well.

After upgrading make sure you have a 'Search Results' page if you want to use the new Search Input module or if you have a new skin with this control in it. To make a Search Results page add a new page with the module 'Search Results' in the content pane. The page and module settings should be set to all users.
