DotNetNuke Text/HTML Module

The DotNetNuke Text/HTML module is a core DotNetNuke module that comes pre-installed. You can choose this module from the dropdown menu bar in your administrator's toolbar at the top of the page.

Rich Text Editor

The Text/HTML module is a built in editor that allows you to easily add content to your pages. You can cut and paste from a word processor such as Microsoft Word. Word comes with a tool called 'Word Clean'. Install the tool and use it to clean all that extra html code you don't need before pasting into your DotNetNuke editor.

There are 2 modes in the DotNetNuke editor 'Basic Text Box' and 'Rich Text Editor'. DotNetNuke version 2 always defaults to the 'Basic Text Box'. DotNetNuke version 3 always defaults to the 'Rich Text Editor'.

Version 2 only

Many people get these two modes mixed up and the page gets messed up. New users usually say 'What Happened?', experienced users usually say '!#@^*'.

In DotNetNuke version 2 every time you click in to Edit the module the 'Basic Text Box' radio button is always checked on. Follow this scenario using the Text/HTML module:

  1. Click to Edit the Text/HTML module
  2. Check to see if the 'Rich Text Editor' radio button is on
  3. NO it isn't
  4. Click the Rich Text Editor radio button
  5. Click Cancel to leave the editor.
  6. Click Edit to go back into the Text/HTML editor.

The 'Rich Text Editor' radio button should now be on and you can enter your information in design or HTML mode. This only happens the first time you click on the edit to enter the module. Once you have changed the default it will remember until you log off.

Because it's so simple to forget about the above radio buttons it's a good idea to save your HTML in notepad for a quick page backup. If you have extensive HTML mark up I suggest making sure that 'Word Wrap' is turned off in Notepad before pasting back into your DotNetNuke Text/HTML module or you may get some surprising results.

How to fix the messed up page

This is what happened to your page. The editor went through the page in basic mode and thought that every time you pressed the enter/return button you wanted a
tag, so it put them in.

You can go through in design mode trying to delete the spaces or you can go through HTML mode and delete all the extra
 tags you see.

Not just a word editor

The DotNetNuke Text/HTML editor can do more than just display your words. The scroller on the skin gallery page is DHTML. IE 5.5+ compliant. This means that only users using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or greater browser software will see it properly. Firefox handles it well but continues to scroll instead of stopping (I can live with this). The red gradient filter in the headpane will only be seen by IE 5.5+ or greater all others see the white background. Search engines pick up the text right nicely too. If your browser sees this differently let me know so I can add the information here.

The following code is similiar to the Text/HTML module installed in the Headpane on the skin gallery page. Highlight and copy and paste the following DHTML into your editor while in the HTML mode.

The table is so I can control the width in the headpane and the IE 5.5+ FILTER. You don't need to have all this, just what is between the 2 MARQUEE tags.
